Moving Forward by Looking Back Series
In this series of work I want to emphasize the experience of lacking a connection to a cultural background. An experience that many black Americans can relate to. I am trying to navigate the spaces that I am put in. I am trying to understand the new information that I have about my own ancestry and decide how I am going to move forward with it. But I also want to embrace the cultures and identities that grew from the African Diaspora. I aim to show how black culture continues to grow and evolve over time as its own specific identity in the diaspora.
