Outside, Briefly

This past week I've been thinking a lot about being outside. In part because Mother Nature was giving us pretend spring, but I've also been spending so much time with the new Marceline Mason exhibition, Lumen Naturae and her nocturnal landscapes.  Add that to viewing Carla Anderson's expansive new photographs from her recent residency in Norway and I've been acutely aware of how being outside can shift my mindset, even briefly.

CARLA ANDERSON | Fleinvaer 3, Norway, 2026

That line of thinking led me to build a small online viewing room this week:
Outside, briefly.

A loose collection of photographs from Carla Anderson, Brian Day and S. Kay Young that each approach the landscape from a different emotional register.  It's a reminder that “outside” isn't one thing. It can be vast or intimate. Restorative or eerie. A place to look outward or even further inward.

In the process of building this page, I found myself using our updated Browse Art section on the website quite a bit.  We've changed it to make finding work a more fun.   You can move through works by artist, category, series, exhibition, or new arrivals.

S. KAY YOUNG | Pine

Hopefully, you will enjoy looking through if you find yourself with a few extra minutes.

Happy Sunday.
