Scott Vincent Campbell

Material

April 26 - May 25, 2019

Reception: April 26, 6 - 9 PM

“Objects hold their own power. Materials hold their own power. By creating works that reference the physical objects often used to define culture, I aim to create room to analyze it, and imagine alternatives.’’

—SCOTT VINCENT CAMPBELL

Material presents work informed by the idea of the object. For Campbell, the individual pieces in the exhibition function as totems: expressions of the particular idea with which the larger body of work is concerned. The exhibition builds upon Campbell’s 2018 solo exhibition, Caro Kann, through new work from the same two series, Not Good but Well Behaved and F.O.O.L. (Fabric of Our Lives), to demonstrate the next steps in Campbell’s engagement with material culture.

The materials Campbell uses are an integral way of translating the meaning of the work; he mines them for their existing associations and qualities to form a larger dialogue.
